Last week Morrisons became the latest retailer to base its model for European expansion on an online strategy rather than building its presence through flagship stores. The decision echoes that of Sir Stuart Rose, outgoing supremo of Marks & Spencer, who said he believed M&S would enter new markets through an online platform in the future.
