A group of major US retailers – including Shell, 7-Eleven, Target and Walmart – has joined forces to develop its own mobile commerce platform, taking on banks, telcom providers and technology companies. The Merchant Customer Exchange (MCX) is currently building an app and the partners say that between them they serve nearly every smartphone-enabled American consumer and account for approximately $1 trillion in annual retail sales.
