Despite the first signs of a small recovery in UK development, the number of shops operated by multiple retailers in the UK fell for the first time in 14 years during the first half of 2012. According to property advisor CBRE in its Chain Expansion report, the total number of chain store retail branches slipped by 0.42% to 100,93, representing the first contraction since records began in 1998.
